Dear Students,
Welcome to the second week of the new semester. Our first class was held on Thursday, January 22, where we reviewed key aspects of the course, including information available on our class website, your BrainHQ exercises, and the structure of the weekly lessons.
Last week, we explored why we study brain fitness, the importance of learning about the brain, and the benefits of maintaining a healthy brain. If you missed the first class, you can watch the recording in the Orientation Lesson.
Each week, you will receive an email with important information about the Brain Fitness program, upcoming lessons, and a brief summary of the previous week. If you do not receive these emails, please check your Junk or Spam folders or the Email tab on bfclass.com.
We encourage you to log in to your Canvas course, which serves as our interactive learning hub. Even if you’re unable to attend a Zoom session, you can still share your experiences and thoughts with classmates and learn from one another in a respectful, safe, and engaging environment. We will show you during class how easy it is to log in. Below are the directions for signing in to Canvas.
Steps to sign into Canvas: Canvas
1. Sign in with your student email
2. Use your PORTAL password
3. Complete the two-step authentication
If you are unable to connect to Canvas, please contact Student Support:

We would like to let you know that registration for the course is still open, and in-person assistance is available at different locations, times, and days (see attachments). If you know others who may be interested, we would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word by sharing the attached flyers. The goal of this program is to support brain health and promote healthy aging in our communities. Anyone who would like more information is welcome to contact the instructor directly.
Thank you for your support and for being part of this learning community.
This Week: Color, Light, and the Brain
This week’s lesson explores how light and color influence brain function, including attention, mood, stress, and overall cognitive performance. Blue-enriched daylight can boost alertness, while warm, dim lighting in the evening supports relaxation and sleep. Natural colors such as green may reduce stress, while more intense colors can increase arousal.
We will cover how the brain processes light and color, the role of circadian rhythms, the effects of natural versus artificial lighting, and practical strategies to optimize your environment for brain fitness.
Below you will find the Zoom links and Quick Links (all blue, underlined text indicates live links).
