September 9, 2025
On September 9, 2025, the Dominican Society for Advancement in Modern Sciences (DSAMS), under the guidance of their moderator Ms. Eden Lubag, conducted a Coastal Cleanup at the Mangrove Area, Brgy. Sineguelasan, Bacoor City, Cavite.
The participants worked together to collect a total of 61.5 kilograms of waste (12 kg, 3.5 kg, 16 kg, 6.5 kg, 11 kg, and 12.5 kg), helping restore the cleanliness of the coastline and protect the mangrove ecosystem. This effort reflects the commitment of the youth in addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices.
The activity is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, SDG 15: Life on Land, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, as it promotes ecological preservation, community involvement, and environmental awareness.
On August 29, 2025, the Dominican Society for Advancement in Modern Sciences (DSAMS) conducted a coastal clean-up drive in Sineguelasan, Bacoor City. The organization was divided into two batches for the activity. The fifteen members were organized into six pairs and one trio. Within each group, one member was assigned to tally the types and amounts of trash collected, while the others focused on gathering waste. This method ensured that all collected items were properly accounted for.
Members began collecting trash promptly upon entering the area. While the team did their best to retrieve all visible litter, certain unstable or hazardous areas made it difficult to access some debris. Nonetheless, the group made significant progress.
At the end of the activity, a total of 47.6 kilograms (5.5 kg, 2.9 kg, 9.75 kg, 6 kg, 5.2 kg, 7.25 kg, & 11 kg respectively) of trash was collected. One group led the effort by collecting 11 kg alone. Based on the tally sheets there was a significant amount of food wrappers, plastic pieces, plastic cups & plates, other plastic/foam packaging, and construction materials.
