Kindergarten - 3rd grade

Math

Some kids love it, others hate it, but everyone has to learn it. Math! But the subject doesn’t have to remain within the walls of a school. This series outlines ways you can bring math alive every day, at dinner, watching TV or running errands , in fun and engaging ways.

math tips for parents

In kindergarten, children focus most on learning numbers and what numbers represent. They learn to count to tell how many objects, to read and write numbers up to 20, and to add and subtract to 10.

In 1st grade, children focus most on solving more difficult addition and subtraction problems and extend their understanding of place value (ones and tens).

In 2nd grade, children focus most on addition and subtraction skills, building on the work they did in kindergarten and 1st grade, and extending their understanding of place value from ones and tens to hundreds.

In 3rd grade, students focus most on developing an understanding of multiplication and division of numbers up to 100, and fractions.
