Math Fluency

Below you will find some information on what your student is learning during math fluency!

Finger Counting

In class, students were taught to begin counting on their left hand, pinky finger, which would be the number 1, then the ring finger number 2, and the middle finger number 3, pointer 4, and thumb is 5. Right hand thumb is 6, pointer is 7, middle finger is 8, ring finger is 9 and pinky is 10.

To play this game, explain to the kindergarten student when you hold your hand with a thumbs up they count up, when your hand is flat they stop counting, and when you have a thumbs down you count down. You can start at any number based on your kindergarten students skill level and what he/she needs to practice.

Beep Number

When playing this game you will need a whiteboard, dry erase marker and a number sequence (number line). You will count in a sequence, saying beep instead of one of the numbers (ex. 1, 2, beep, 4, 5). The kindergarten student will write the beep number (missing number) on his or her whiteboard. The student can use the number sequence to help them figure out the missing number. See video for more clarification.
