Meet the Teacher

Hello Middleton families! My name is Mrs Huerta, formerly known as Ms. Salas ( I got married last Summer, yay!). I am delighted to continue being part of the Middleton community as I begin my third year as a member of the Fourth grade team. In 2016, I received my bachelor's degree in English from Northeastern Illinois University. I then went on to complete my master's degree in Elementary Education as a graduate student at NEIU. Although this is only my third year teaching at Middleton, I had the privilege of fulfilling my clinical and student teaching internships working alongside the 5th grade team in the year of 2019. Consequently, I am thrilled to be coming back as part of this wonderful and dedicated staff and community!

Prior to working at Middleton, I fulfilled a maternity leave position working as a Kindergarten teacher for Chicago Public Schools. Before that, I worked in the Early Childhood field as an assistant teacher at a daycare center for five years. I have lived in Chicago for the past 18 years, but I am originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. I'm also a fluent speaker of Spanish, in addition to being able to read it and write it proficiently.

In my spare time, I like to spend time outdoors. I particularly enjoy hiking and going to the beach! I also love hanging out with my husband Vinnie, spending time with friends and family, reading, traveling, trying out new restaurants around the city and rollerblading (my new hobby). I have a younger sister named Lucy, an older sister named Gina and a two-year-old niece named Mila whom I absolutely adore!

I am very excited for the upcoming school year and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of my students and their respective families. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

This is me and my beautiful niece Mila. She is my only niece, so she gets all the love!

This is Kitty, our family dog. We've had her for 15 years!

Hiking at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado. Colorado is one of my favorite states to visit!

Here is a family photo from my little sister's wedding day!

Enjoying a sunny day by the lakefront with my mom. Chicago's skyline is simply the best!

I took a trip to Boston a few Summers ago. It was such a lovely city. And, of course, I had to wear my Cubs shirt!
