The Shoreline Challenge Program is a creative and self-directed inquiry program. This program is designed to act as a ladder into the Challenge Programs at Esquimalt and Mount Douglas High Schools, using a similar holistic approach to learning and cognitive development. Students in the Challenge Program are expected to:
Have both advisory teacher and parent/guardian sign their mutual agreement in their Google Forms applications that this student will, to the best of their knowledge, be able to do the work expected in the program in addition to completion of their regular advisory classroom work
Receive parental/guardian consent to work on Google Classroom platform via SD61 Parent Connect
Attend and regularly participate in Challenge class (1 in-person block per week with regular online check-ins)
Select a topic for the Challenge exhibit that is of high interest to them relevant to the topics of the term (Term 1 - STEM, Term 2 - Humanities, Term 3 - Arts & Applied Skills)
Explain what they already know about their exhibit choice and what they do not know
Consider questions they have about their exhibit and select one Inquiry question to research
Work on their Challenge exhibit outside of Challenge class
Ensure Challenge exhibit is original work
Ensure Challenge exhibit cites relevant sources used in creating their project using APA formatting which will be modeled by Mr. Morrison
Select at least three research sources and record what they have learned from them appropriately
Review a variety of product choices prior to selection of one that best reflects their exhibit, their Inquiry question, and what they have learned
Construct a plan to create their exhibit and complete progress reports that will be submitted via Google Classroom to Mr. Morrison
Be self-directed and develop their Challenge exhibit with minimal direction and instructions
Be prepared by the end of each term with a completed Challenge exhibit that includes their Inquiry question, research, and product that will be presented to others in the Shoreline community
