What will the first day look like?
Grade 9s come on their own on the in the morning on the first day. Block A teachers will meet students in the gym and provide a tour of the school as they walk to their block A class location. Students will attend each of their 4 classes and head home after a couple hours.
When will students receive their schedules?
Students can pick up their schedules or view them through the MyEd Student Portal starting on the last Friday before school starts. Students can pick up a paper copy from the front foyer at the school.
What's the hardest part about transitioning to high school?
Grade 9 is a transition year to high school. The hardest part about high school is different for everyone, but the main thing that some students may find hard is the added responsibility that comes with the higher degree of freedom you experience at High School. Expectations for academic courses can be higher, but teachers are understanding and flexible.
What if I get lost in the school?
There are signs in the hallways that indicate the classroom numbers down the hallways and there is a map of the school that can be found on the school website or app. Also, the teachers and other students are very helpful and can direct you in the right direction.
How can I meet new people and make friends?
You will meet lots of new people in your classes, but there are many opportunities outside of class as well. Joining a club or a sports team is a great way to make new friends.
Where is the bathroom?
There are bathrooms throughout the school, including gender neutral options. There are no bathrooms on the bottom floor in the flex wing.
Will I have a locker?
Traditionally, grade 9 and 10 students share lockers and grade 11 and 12 students have their own (CSE students have their own lockers for their stinky gear).
Will I have a home room?
Reynolds does not have homeroom classes everyday.
Can I still leave the school grounds at lunch?
Reynolds is an open-campus school meaning that you can leave school grounds at lunch.
Will the cafeteria be open?
Hot, delicious lunches are available at Reynolds everyday. Our primary goal is to provide food for those students who need it cost free. It is also available for all students, if you are interested in purchasing lunches for your child. These are purchased on a monthly basis. A free breakfast offering is available for all who need it from 8 am - 8:30 am. It will be set up in our main foyer.
What are the chances of getting into your chosen elective?
We try to prioritize the top choices of students, but sometimes not all choices fit in student schedules and an alternate course will be placed in the students schedule.
When taking fine arts as an elective do you have to take it once every year to pass or once in high school?
Students are required to take one applied skill or one fine arts course in grade 10, 11 or 12 to graduate.
Will there be a special place to work and get help on work?
Students can work in the library or take Learning Strategies in room 202 which provides a block of time in their schedule to support the classes their are taking.
I'm curious about Reynold's support for students with learning disabilities and special needs.
Learning Support Teachers can be found in room 214 and 216. Students can access a variety of supports through this space including access to a quiet space, teacher/ea support, assistive technology, etc.
How do I access my report card/learning update?
Report Cards, now called Learning Updates, are sent home digitally to families at the end of each term. They are available for students through Student Connect.
Will I have a different teacher/ peers for each subject?
Yes, each course you take will generally be with a different teacher and different classmates, however you are very likely going to be with some of your peers in multiple courses.
How long is each class block? When does school start and end? How much time do you have between classes?
Please see the school website for our daily schedule. There are 5 minutes between classes with a 55 minute lunch break.
How long is the lunch break?
Monday - Thursday there is a 55 minute lunch break and on Friday it is 30 minutes. Please see our school website for our daily schedule.
What is the homework like at Reynolds? Is there a steady stream of daily homework? Or does it depend on the student and/or their ability to complete the given assignments during school hours?
It depends on the course and teacher, however, all of the Reynolds teachers are understanding and give students opportunities to complete their work in class.
Are expectations high for new students?
Grade 9 teachers know that High School is new to you and they are very welcoming.
Are we a device free school?
At Reynolds we have a cell phone policy in classrooms. It varies with each teacher. Students are expected to use phones responsibly and respectfully. Generally, cell phones should be off and away.
What are the different leadership opportunities?
There is a leadership class for course credit and there are leadership opportunities throughout the year. Other leadership opportunities include Principal’s Advisory which meets Monday at lunch in room 202. You can also start your own club if you want. Students in Flex also provide opportunities for leadership within the program
Are there any pride events or organizations? (GSA, pride clubs, etc?)

What are the school programs including extra curricular options?
There are lots of options for Reynolds students. Please see our school website for all the options. Join and try everything you can. High school gives students a great opportunity to try something new and if it is not working, change to something new. If there is something that you are interested in and it is not represented by a club, you can always form your own!
What is gym class like? Do we do sports or just play games?
PE courses at Reynolds involve learning many different sports such as ultimate frisbee, basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, lacrosse and more, as well as workouts in the weightroom, line dancing, and circuit training.
Do we have to change for gym?
Please do! Yes, gym strips are required for PE classes, however, in certain units such as line dancing, gym strips are optional.
What sports teams does Reynolds have
Reynolds has many sports teams with different seasons so you can play on multiple teams. Please see our school website for all of our offerings. This year we started an E-sports team.
Are we gonna be going swimming if yes where?
There is a swim team. Sometimes PE classes, such as, CP Rec 11/12 and Active Living 11/12, go swimming as part of the curriculum.
Can I join band if I change my mind?
Yes.
When does jazz band meet?
Outside the timetable. Mornings/lunch/after school. Please check out the music website.
When are out of school times for music?
Rehearsal times for the various ensembles vary between morning, lunch, and after school rehearsals. Morning rehearsals begin at 7:30 and after school rehearsals can go until about 4:30 pm. Please check out the music website. Mr. Davis and Ms. Kerr will let everyone know when rehearsal times are.
Where is the flex studies class room?
English Flex is in Room 32, located on the bottom floor of the school.
Is there a chance I can still get in the flex programs?
Sometimes a spot opens in Flex and students who are interested in transferring in can inquire at the office.
Is flex only in grade 9 and 10? Will I go to normal classes with different teachers and different people in 11 and 12?
Starting in grade 11 you will be in “regular classes” with different teachers. Please see the Flex website for more information.
