A Chromebook is a laptop running the Linux-based Chrome OS as its operating system. The devices are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and data residing in "the cloud". A Chromebook is an example of a thin client.
Chromebooks do not have installed programs like Word, Excel, Photoshop, etc. Instead they use the Chrome Operating System that connects to the internet and uses web-based apps like Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Draw, Sheets as well as many other Google based apps. They are fast, have an efficient battery life and in general are an easy to use device in a classroom setting .

To use a school Chromebook you/your students must log in with a GAFE (@sd61learn.ca) account and password
Settings, bookmarks, themes, apps (Drive, Docs, Slides, etc) and extensions will travel with you and your account so it doesn't matter which Chromebook you use.
You can also sign in as a GUEST - no password required. This option allows for web browsing only.

Make sure to Sign Out when finished using the device. Click the sign out button (top Right)
Closing the computer does not log you out.
You can also sign off by powering down. You can power off by hitting the power off button on the bottom right.

For the most part using a Chromebook is just like using a regular laptop computer however there are some things that are a bit different.
To the right is a slideshow reviewing some of these.
I recommend going through it before you use the computers for the first time.
