There are many reasons I could give to convince you why you should make Chrome your default web browsers, in fact you can read some of them here, but this week I want to focus on bookmarks.
Bookmarking websites is a convenient way to keep all of your frequently visited sites just one click away. Managing all those favourites can be tricky however, especially when they start to increase in number.
This post is to help introduce you to bookmarks for those new to using Chrome, and to help organize those bookmarks when you realize how great they are.
In order to ensure your bookmarks go where ever you do, to whatever computer or device your are working on, you MUST sign in to Google Chrome. Click here to see how.
Make sure your bookmark bar is showing (this is sometimes turned off on Chromebooks):
Click on the Ellipsis (3 Little Dots) in the top right corner of Chrome
Select Bookmarks > Show Bookmarks Bar
First go to the website you want to bookmark
Click and hold on the left-most side of the omnibox (before the http://)
Drag to the bookmark bar
Click on the 3 Dots on the far right of the Chrome window
Select Bookmarks
Select Bookmark this Page
If you have a list of bookmarks from another browser such as Safari, Firefox or Explorer you can import all of them into Chrome
Click on the 3 Dots on the far right of the Chrome window
Select Bookmarks
Select Import Bookmarks and Settings
Select where you want to import bookmarks from and select import
Have too many bookmarks crowding your bookmark bar? The easiest solution for this is to start using bookmark folders. Here’s how:
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right on the 3 Dots (ellipsis)
Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
At the top left, next to "Folders," click the Down arrow .
Click Add Folder, then type a name for your folder.
Drag bookmarks into your folder.
Shortcut - You can also right-click directly on the bookmark bar and select Add Folder to create a new folder. Drag and drop your bookmarks into this folder.
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right on the 3 Dots (ellipsis)
Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
Above your bookmarks, click Organize.
Click Reorder by Title. Your bookmarks will be listed in alphabetical order.
To quickly access your Google Apps use the colourful Apps waffle found on the far left side of your bookmark bar. Click on this and you will see icons for Docs, Drive, YouTube, Gmail, Sheets, and Slides.
These are direct shortcut links to these GAFE products - just click and you’re there. No need to bookmark them again in your bookmark bar!
If you notice any an App you frequently use is missing from the list (such as Google Classroom) go to the Chrome Web Store (click on the icon) > search for your missing App > add to Chrome
