Students come to the counseling office to talk about challenges that they are experiencing. These may include academics, family, peer, or personal concerns. It is also a space to share good news, foster friendship, and take brain-breaks.
Peer Mediations are facilitated to help students communicate with each other and promote restorative justice. Students practice I-statements and restating each other's statements to foster respect, empathy, and communication skills.
The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards are at the core of the person-centered approach to working with students. These professional and ethical standards include positive regard, confidentiality, and risk screening.
