It is recommended that students who have advanced artistic abilites take the opportunity to cross enroll at HSS to access advanced art courses.
ART STUDIO 11 AND 12 (MVAST-11/MVAST-12)
Art Studio is an introductory course to a variety of art media. Students can expect to learn about the elements and principles of art and design, as well as, the basic techniques of both 2-D and 3-D art, which may include any of the following: printmaking, drawing, painting, ceramics, graphic arts and sculpture.
In addition, at SSA, students will have the opportunity to work directly with members of the Squamish Nation to create authentic Indigenous art and music pieces, including drum making, cedar weaving, spoon carving, leather work, and wood crafting. This element is essential to learning about Indigenous culture through art, providing meaningful access points for students of all ancestry to engage with traditional practices, perspectives, and creative expression.
