Artists in the Classroom Grant Application
In collaboration with the PAC, we successfully secured an Artstarts grant, marking a significant milestone for our school. While the PAC has traditionally funded artists to engage with each classroom, this year, we made a deliberate shift towards promoting Indigenous art. Last year, we partnered with Tanina Williams and Splash (Aaron Moody Nelson) to provide educators with valuable insights into the cultural appropriateness of teaching Indigenous art. Building on this foundation, we are utilizing the grant to craft a collection of plank drums (one for each class) with the expertise of Art Harry, and a series of hide drums (one for each class) with the skilled guidance of Chelsie McCutcheon. Art Harry will work with the grade 6/7 classes, focusing on carving, and will focus on drawing with all of the other grades.Â
