Where to Begin
Start small and simple
Materials: writing surfaces, pencil, notebook/paper, sit mats (i.e. cut up yoga mats, extra large zip-loc bags filled with newspaper)
Establish signals for getting children’s attention (i.e. bird call) and boundaries (i.e. landmarks, cones)
Co-create rules for safety with children
Ensure others have been notified of the time, date and destination of the walk
Consider the following:
Do you require extra helpers? Consider child/adult ratio.
Bring along your cell phone
Are children wearing weather appropriate clothing?
Risk assessment of environment (canopy risk assessment, pathways, hazards
Consider the impact you will have on the space. How can you minimize your impact on the host environment?
