Parents can help further their child's mathematical understanding and deepen their connections by asking these questions during conversations as students notice and wonder about the world around them:
How many? How much? How are these the same? How are they different?
How do you know? Can you tell me more?
Is this a pattern? What happens next in the pattern? Can you change the pattern?
What shapes do you see? What can we measure?
What does this graph tell us? How is this information shown?
How can I approach this problem? Can I solve it more than one way?
What mistakes did you make? How did they help you solve the problem?
