It is especially valuable for those whose comprehension level exceeds reading ability, those who are learning reading, and those who are inexperienced readers. Parents are our first readers and the value of this connection is underestimated and should continue well after the child becomes a reader. It also provides the opportunity to discuss what has been read which increases comprehension.
