Read to Someone

Increases reading accuracy, comprehension, and fluency.

Students should be encouraged to read to anyone who will listen! It is best if their audience is someone who can listen to them talk about what they read, as this opens the door to greater attention and shared increased comprehension however, a pet will do in a pinch. often this is thought of as a routine for new but no matter your reading level reading out loud will improve so many aspects of literacy.

General Tips for successful partner reading

  • Choose a successful spot to work

  • Sit EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee) if that is comfortable

  • Choose one or two books to read that are well within your comfort zone

  • You can take turns reading with your partner

  • When you are reading... think about what makes sense, and catch your errors as you go, try for a smooth even pace with some expression.
