Universally-Available Assistive Technology: Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech

Do you have a student that has Speech-to-Text or Text-to-Speech in his/her IEP or 504? Follow the steps below to set up their Chromebook for these accommodations. If you need help with this or would like to gather your team for a training please contact Tina Swarr tswarr@sd27j.net or Madeline (Maddie) Peters - mpeters@sd27j.net

Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech can also be used for any student at the discretion of the teacher. *Note* these do not work in every application your student may use.

How to set up Text-to-Speech

Open Settings > Advanced > Accessibility> Manage accessibility settings > Enable select-to-speak.
Use cursor to draw a box around the text you want to read.
