Any person who is a member of an IEP team may initiate a referral to the local SWAAAC team. This request can be initiated by sending an email to the district SWAAAC coordinator (Monica Petersen mpetersen@sd27j.net). You should receive a response within 24 hours to one week to discuss next steps.
The SWAAAC team may help with the initial setup of a communication device/system, provide information on how to use or training on a communication device, and/or help with the implementation of ideas to support students access to curriculum. Additionally, the SWAAAC team may assist in the positioning of switches and trial different switch types.
