Digital Access and Rules for Technology in our Classroom

As 4th Graders, we will be using our Chromebooks and other forms of technology to assist us in our learning this year.

Please look through the different examples of technology that will be available to you, and read the expectations for each. You are expected to be safe, responsible, and respectful to the devices and other learners.

In order to be fair and allow each learner the same opportunities to use each form of technology, Miss Reece will keep a checkout sheet of what technology you are using and when you used it. If you have already used something and another learner hasn't used it yet, please share with them or give him/her the opportunity to use it first.

Chromebook

You will have a Chromebook assigned to you at the beginning of the year. It will be used regularly, if not daily, to help us in our learning.

Expectations:

Take care of your Chromebook.
Don't change your backgrounds or settings unless you have asked Miss Reece first.
Stay on task. If you are supposed to be working on an assignment, make sure you are working on the assignment.
Return and plug in your Chromebook in the Chromecart when you are finished working on it.

IPad Mini

We are lucky to have 6 IPad Minis in our classroom. They are stored in the Chromecart. They are to be used to play pre-installed educational games, provide AR and VR opportunities, control the Dash and Sphero robots, and fly our drones. Each learner will have the opportunity to use an iPad mini during our Intervention times, approximately once a week, or on Tech days.

Expectations:

Take care of the IPad minis.
Don't change the backgrounds or settings unless you have asked Miss Reece first.
Stay on task. If you have asked to play a certain game, make sure you are playing that game.
Return and plug in the IPad Mini in the Chromecart when you are finished with it.

Osmo Games

We have several Osmo learning games in our classroom. They are stored in the Tech drawer. They are to be used to play pre-installed educational games on the IPad Mini. Each learner will have the opportunity to use an iPad mini during our Intervention times, approximately once a week, or on Tech days.

Expectations:

Take care of the game pieces, making sure to put them back in their storage cases neatly.
Share with other learners. We have a limited amount of Osmo games and IPad minis, so sharing will need to happen.
Stay on task. If you have asked to play a certain game, make sure you are playing that game.
Return the games and plug in the IPad Mini in the Chromecart when you are finished with them.

Ozobot

We have 1 Ozobot Color-Coding robot. This is a great way to begin your understanding of coding, robotics, and practice problem-solving. In order to use the Ozobot, you will need the color codes chart, a blank piece of white paper, and markers. The Ozobot can be used during Tech Days, Inside Recesses, or Free Time.

Expectations:

Take care of the Ozobot.
Leave the Ozobot on the table as much as possible. It really doesn't need to be picked up and carried around.
Share with other learners. There is only 1 Ozobot, so draw your designed pathway, have the Ozobot try it, then let your friend try theirs.
Return the Ozobot to Miss Reece and coloring materials to your cubby once finished.

Code-A-Pillar

We have 1 Code-A-Pillar. This is a great way to begin your understanding of coding, robotics, and practice problem-solving. In order to use the Code-A-Pillar, you will need the Code-A-Pillar and a large clear area on the floor. The Code-A-Pillar can be used during Tech Days, Inside Recesses, or Free Time.

Expectations:

Take care of the Code-A-Pillar.
Leave the Code-A-Pillar on the floor as much as possible. It really doesn't need to be picked up and carried around.
Share with other learners. There is only 1 Code-A-Pillar, so decide with the other learners how to best divide your time with it.
Return the Code-A-Pillar and all of its segments to Miss Reece once finished.

Sphero Mini Robot

We have 1 Sphero Mini robot. This is a great way to begin your understanding of coding, robotics, and practice problem-solving. In order to use the Sphero Mini, you will need an IPad Mini and Sphero Mini kit. The Sphero Mini can be used during Tech Days, Inside Recesses, or Free Time.

Expectations:

Take care of the Sphero Mini.
Leave the Sphero on the table as much as possible. It really doesn't need to be picked up and carried around.
Share with other learners. There is only 1 Sphero Mini, so decide with the other learners how to best divide your time with it.
Return the Sphero Mini and its accessories to Miss Reece, and the IPad Mini to the Chromecart once finished.

Wonder Dash Robot

We have 3 Wonder Workshop Dash robots. These are a great way to begin your understanding of coding, robotics, and practice problem-solving. In order to use a Dash robot, you will need your Chromebook and Dash robot. Dash robots can be used during Tech Days, Inside Recesses, or Free Time.

Accessories:

1x - Xylophone and hammer
2x - Launcher
2x - Sketch Kits
2x - Gripper Arms

Expectations:

Take care of the Dash robot.
Leave the Dash robot on the floor as much as possible. It really doesn't need to be picked up and carried around.
Share with other learners. There are only 3 Dash robots, so decide with the other learners how to best divide your time with them.
Return the Dash robot and its accessories to Miss Reece, and your Chromebook to the Chromecart once finished.
