What is a Dual Credit Course? A Dual Credit course is a class where students earns both high school and college credit at the same time. These classes are taught at Century during normal school hours. Century offers 30 Dual Credit courses that satisfy 8 of ISU's 9 General Education Requirements. Finishing these general requirements now can save you anywhere from a semester to an entire year of college!
Who pays for Dual Credit Courses? Idaho has a program called Advanced Opportunities that allocates $4,625 for every student to pay for Dual Credit courses, Overload courses, and AP tests. To access these funds, you must create an Advanced Opportunities account and submit a funding request for each Dual Credit course you take. See the Advanced Opportunities tab for more information and instructions.
What are the Admission Requirements? To qualify for ISU Dual Credit, you must be at least 16 years old and have a 2.7 GPA.
What happens if students fail? Dual Credit grades go permanently on both your high school and college transcripts. A bad grade in a Dual Credit class affects your college GPA. Instead of starting college with a clean slate, you would start college on academic probation. There are also financial consequences. If you fail or withdraw from a Dual Credit class, Advanced Opportunities will not pay for additional courses until you pay for the next course, to make up for tax-payer money spent on failure.
Dual Credit courses are an amazing opportunity to kickstart your college career, but always be mindful of the risks and consequences.
The grades on your college transcript will follow you after college.
Only sign up for a Dual Credit class if you are absolutely confident you will earn a strong grade.
