What Supplies Do I Need For Band?

Below is a list of items that are needed for band. There is also a list of items that I would recommend that every student has for his/her specific instrument. The items that are listed for each instrument will help keep instruments in good playing condition and allow them to be played for many years to come. At the bottom of the page, I've included a list of music stores where you can get these supplies.

Materials Needed for Band

Music stand (for home practice so students can practice properly)
A pencil
An instrument all instruments MUST have a natural finish to them. This generally means a brassy or gold-looking finish for brass instruments and saxophones, black finish for clarinets, and silver finish for flues.
Essential Elements Interactive Book 1 (formally known as Essential Elements 2000 Book 1) (there are two versions of this book, one with a DVD/CD and one without, both books have the same content)

In addition to the above materials, all students will need the instrument specific equipment below:

Cleaning Rod (this should come with the flute rental)

Small piece of 4” x 4” cloth (for cleaning the flute (a square cut out of an old T-shirt works great)

Polishing Cloth

Clarinet

1 box of reeds 2.5 or Medium Soft

Reed Holder

Clarinet Swab

Cork Grease

Mouthpiece brush

Trumpet

Mouthpiece brush

Cleaning Snake

Valve Oil

Slide Grease

Polishing Cloth

Trombone

Mouthpiece brush

Cleaning Snake

Slide Cream

Small Spray Bottle (for spraying water on the slide, can easily be found at Wal-Mart or the dollar store)

Mouthpiece brush

Bell Kit/Practice Pad for home usage (available through music store).

Drum Sticks- Vic Firth SD1 sticks are a good choice

Musser M3 Mallets <---- These are a great alternative to the sticks that are provided with the bell kits

A stick bag for carrying all of their sticks and mallets
