Nonfiction Reading Learning Progression

Learning A-Z has a variety of short online books and quizzes. Students should listen, read, then take a quiz from the Level Up section. They can also make a practice recording so their teacher can hear them read! Teachers can also see a report of their activity on Learning A-Z. There are also sections for vocabulary, writing, and science practice activities. 

The reading levels on Learning A-Z do not match the reading level system we use when testing students.

Students should be directly logged in if they go through their portal. 

iReady provides "just right" reading lessons for students. The lessons range from quick phonics or vocabulary lessons, to very long close reading lessons that need to be completed over the course of multiple sessions. Teachers get a report that shows how well students do on each lesson. 

Students can access iReady through their portal.

Epic! has tons of online books, including books that are published trade books. There are audio book options and quizzes for some books. Most books will include what the reading level is. We use the F+P reading level system. The teacher can see a reading log for kids that are connected.

Epic! is only available to students from 7am to 4pm. If a parent signs up with an email they can get off hours access, but it is still limited.

Footsteps 2 Brilliance has reading and literacy activities for early elementary grades. It is a great place for students to practice phonics, grammar, vocabulary, and reading skills. 

Students can access F2B through their portals.
