Choosing an LGBTQ+ Affirming College

There are a number of factors to consider when it comes to picking a campus that's the right fit. For LGBTQ+ folks, a vibrant community and safety on campus are essential. A few things to look for include:

1. LGBTQ+ student clubs and organizations.

   • Determine if there's a Pride Center on campus and if it's easy to find. 

2. Accessible and inclusive campus facilities.

   • Gender inclusive restrooms, safe campus housing options.

3. Safe Zone and other ally-focused training programs.

   • LGBTQ+ specific trainings available for campus staff and students.

4. Inclusive Student Code of Conduct. 

   • Codes should address protections from hate speech and harassment. 

5. LGBTQ+ advisory groups.

   • Typically comprised of students, staff, and faculty with a direct connection to executive leaders on campus.
