Who are Hypersensitive Children?

According to psychotherapist Elaine Aaron, hypersensitivity is a temperament trait and not a psychic or a physical disorder.

Highly sensitive children perceive external stimuli and the surrounding environment in a deeper and more detailed way. For example, some children are very sensitive to noise, flavors, light, etc.

They need an environment designed in order to accommodate their characteristics. If a child feels nervous and confused when in school his classmates get crazy, the teacher could be of great help in creating a more calm and less chaotic environment.

Highly sensitive children need to be listened and valued in order to help them express their qualities to their fullest potential.
