CLASS OVERVIEW
English at grade 7 has an emphasis on writing and the continued development of reading, mechanics and communication skills.
The program is aligned with state standards and the Common Core national standards.
Students will compose, read, analyze and practice grammar.
We will share Core novels and read independently with the Newsela system.
Vocabulary development will be addressed with Membean practice as well as Root Word Spelling.

USUAL ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE
Note: There will be one or two of these activities, not usually three. Most assignments are designed to be completed between live class period and afternoon independent work time. Please communicate by 📧 email if you are spending more than 30-45 minutes beyond school day to complete assignments !

Monday: Spelling/Vocabulary and reading

Tuesday: Reading discussion questions or Composition
, vocabulary practice
Wednesday: Composition, Grammar practice, or Reading Analysis
Thursday: Spelling/Vocabulary Quiz, Nonfiction reading or project
Friday: Free Choice reading and response
**Students are to complete in class reading questions for assigned chapter or selection the day it is read.
All students should find a free choice novel for Free Choice Reading
