Online Instruction Tools
There are a number of tools supported by Scottsdale Community College that faculty can use to remotely deliver courses. This includes synchronous and asynchronous options. The tools below require you to use some form of video. Before you venture into the video world, check out the Video & Web Meeting Best Practices for tips on how to best present yourself and your content.
YouTube
YouTube is a free video sharing website that makes sharing videos online easy, and is part of the Google Apps suite. You can upload videos to your account, choose availability, share links or embed your videos. As part of Maricopa's enterprise licensing of Google for Education, there are benefits to using YouTube for streaming your videos.
unlimited storage in your YouTube channel
a default video length of 15 minutes, but extendable to 128GB or 12 hours, whichever is less
ability to limit access to your videos by choosing "Unlisted" so students can view them, but the video is not searchable
automatic closed captioning to easily review for accuracy

Canvas

Webex
A Webex meeting is an online meeting that allows you to virtually meet with other people, without leaving your home or office. You can use the speakers and microphone in your computer or use a phone line for audio. Webex allows you to share your screen, poll participants, use an electronic whiteboard, chat, and create a recording. The real-time Webex meeting does not include live captioning, but the recording does. To access the Maricopa Webex resources, you must be signed into your MCCCD email account, and use your "MEID@ maricopa.edu" to sign into Webex.

Google Meet
Since all of our students have Maricopa Gmail accounts, it is easy to use Google Meet for synchronous sessions. Anyone with a Google Account can create a video meeting, invite up to 100 participants, and meet for up to 60 minutes per meeting for free.

Screencast-O-Matic
SCC has a site license for Screencast-O-Matic, which records a designated area of your screen as well as audio and webcam input. You can use this tool to record narrated presentations or demonstrations and produce the recordings as videos for your courses. While there is no time limit for the length of your videos, we recommend breaking them into segments of 7 minutes of less. Once you create your video, you can either embed it directly into Canvas, or place it in your Maricopa YouTube account and link it from there. Automatic closed captioning is available in both Screencast-O-Matic and YouTube, and both require a review of the captioning for accuracy.

SoftChalk
SoftChalk is a free tool that allows you to create interactive games, quizzes, flash cards, lessons and so much more in the cloud and easily embed or add as graded assignments to your Canvas course. Give your knowledge checks a boost!
