Reclassification is the process of identifying when a student has developed enough English proficiency to exit ELL services. At Scott County Schools, this decision is made carefully based on multiple data points.
To be reclassified as βProficient,β a student must meet all of the following:
π ELPA21 Summative Assessment:
Proficient in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing
π Academic Achievement:
Grades and classroom performance consistent with peers
π©βπ« Teacher Input:
Observations and classroom evidence support readiness
π¨βπ©βπ§ Parent Notification & Collaboration:
Families are informed and consulted during the process
All exited students are monitored for four years to ensure continued success.

Quarterly check-ins by EL staff
EL Teacher
Year 3β4
Annual review of grades and test scores

If Needed
LSP may be reactivated to provide support again
EL Team & Teachers
Families receive a Reclassification Letter when their child exits ELL services.
If a student is struggling after exit, a support plan may be reinstated, and families will be contacted.
