✅ What Is Reclassification?

Reclassification is the process of identifying when a student has developed enough English proficiency to exit ELL services. At Scott County Schools, this decision is made carefully based on multiple data points.

🧪 Criteria for Reclassification

To be reclassified as “Proficient,” a student must meet all of the following:

• 📊 ELPA21 Summative Assessment:
  
  

  • Proficient in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing
    
    

• 📝 Academic Achievement:
  
  

  • Grades and classroom performance consistent with peers
    
    

• 👩‍🏫 Teacher Input:
  
  

  • Observations and classroom evidence support readiness
    
    

• 👨‍👩‍👧 Parent Notification & Collaboration:
  
  

  • Families are informed and consulted during the process
    
    

🔁 What Happens After Reclassification?

All exited students are monitored for four years to ensure continued success.

Year 1–2

Quarterly check-ins by EL staff

EL Teacher

Year 3–4

Annual review of grades and test scores

School Team

If Needed

LSP may be reactivated to provide support again

EL Team & Teachers

📬 Family Notification

• Families receive a Reclassification Letter when their child exits ELL services.
  
  

• If a student is struggling after exit, a support plan may be reinstated, and families will be contacted.
