Beneficiaries receive insurance payouts when an insured person dies. Dependents are people covered under your plans. They are not automatically beneficiaries. Keep your beneficiaries up to date after major life events (marriage, divorce, birth, adoption, death).
Basic Term Life (required)
Voluntary Term Life (required)
MassMutual Whole Life (required)
Aflac Accident (required)
*You can add or change your beneficiary(ies) during initial enrollment or open enrollment in the Selerix (BenSelect) system. Review the flyer for more information.
Primary beneficiary: First in line to receive the benefit. You can name more than one and split percentages.
Contingent beneficiary: Receives the benefit only if all primary beneficiaries are deceased.
Example: Primary Alex (50%) and Jordan (50%). Contingent Taylor (100%). If Alex and Jordan are both deceased at the time of the claim, Taylor receives 100%.
If something happens to you, the payout of each of your benefits (including the LGERS pension plan and all supplemental plans) is governed by the beneficiary designation on file with each, different plan provider. In most cases, payouts are not made based on the relationship of the beneficiary to the deceased member at the time of death.
