At the beginning of the year, all 5th graders will visit the performing group teachers during period 4 on days 2 4 6 for the first week and half of school. The performing group teachers will present to all students. After all students have met with each performing group teacher, students and parents will have to fill out a Google Form choosing either band, orchestra or chorus. At the conclusion of the choice making period students will be divided into three separate groups: band, orchestra and chorus. Mr. Miller and I hope that your child will choose the band!
You will be impressed to see what your investment in the band program does for your child. Being involved in band has been shown to enhance numerous aspects of a person's life, including improving academics, social skills, work ethic and happiness. Join our award winning band program!
Every band needs to have balanced instrumentation in order to provide a quality experience for your child and the greater community. It is important that you keep an open mind when selecting an instrument. Your child should provide a first, second and third choice of which instrument they would like to play in band. The band staff makes a very strong effort to provide the first choice to each student, however it might be necessary to assign a second choice based on instrumentation needs. The band staff also considers physical attributes of the student and aptitude observed during the tryout sessions when assigning an instrument to a child.
Any questions about joining the band should be sent to Mr. Hearn at hearna@scolonie.org .
