Book

Last Night at the Telegraph Club

Last Night at the Telegraph Club is a young adult historical fiction novel written by Malinda Lo. It is set in 1954 San Francisco, and follows the story of Lily Hu, a teenage daughter of Chinese immigrants, as she begins to explore her sexuality.

I think this is an amazing book for many reasons. It has good representation, the plot is excellent, and there is a very sweet romance too. The book is very well written, and the characters are very dynamic, and seem like real people. The main character Lily is a very curious person, and is interested in STEM. I think she is a girlboss honestly. I personally rated it five stars and it is one of my favourite books!

TV Show

One Day At A Time

One day at a time is an American sitcom based on the 1975 series of the same title. The show revolves around The Alvarez family: Lydia, a Cuban immigrant with a flair for the dramatic, her daughter Penelope, a war veteran and nurse with PTSD, and her children: Elena, a passionate and academic activist, and Alex, who is beloved by Lydia. The show also often features the family’s neighbour, Schnieder, and Penelope’s coworker, Leslie.

One day at a time deals with a lot of social and mental issues, such as racism, homophobia, misogyny, separation from one's culture, PTSD, anxiety, rape culture, substance use, and death. I really enjoyed this show as it is comedic and light hearted but takes things seriously when the need be. It is written well and features something new each episode, as well as tackling important subjects in a way that educates the audience as well as the characters.

Get Sleepy: Sleep Meditation and Stories

This is the perfect podcast for any student or teacher feeling the effects of exams - take a moment to destress & unwind

Get Sleepy is a twice weekly story-telling podcast with the goal of helping you get a great night's rest. Listeners have described the podcast as “Life-changing”.

Dubbed the #1 Bedtime Story Podcast, the Get Sleepy pod has countless episodes ranging from calming sleep meditations, fairy tale retellings, and short stories told from the readers point of view.

The reason I recommend this podcast - I started listening to it last spring when it was recommended to me and I have not looked back since. I listen to it most nights and it really has changed the way I sleep. Before, I struggled to quiet my mind to sleep but with Get Sleepy, it really calms the mind as the meditations and stories are just magically calming.

With Get Sleepy, there really is an episode for everyone :) With very serene background noise and minimal distractions, the hosts’ voices are very soothing to listen to.

My favourite episode they have released so far is “Night At The Aquarium”, a wonderful story wherein the host, Nadine, leads us (the reader) on a nighttime tour of a calming harbour and a ‘wondrous aquarium’ full of lovely wee fish. There are many episodes like this and they never get boring, the writers simply overflow with creativity.

Behind the podcast is a small creative team of writers, voice-over artists, and meditation experts. The host, Thomas, has said that he “genuinely believes that everyone deserves a good night’s rest and hope to aid everyone in getting that.”
