Hello all!

I am organizing a Q&A during lunch on Friday with a Black scientist in celebration of Black History Month. I would love if you would share this with your classes next week and encourage them to attend! This is through an organization called Skype a Scientist, which pairs scientists with schools so scientists can talk directly to students. We are fortunate to have Dr. Soshawn Blair volunteer to speak with our students- her full bio is below, but in short she has a PhD in chemistry and is now doing pharmaceutical research focused on rare diseases. I think her story will be something all of our students would be interested in, and I would love if you would encourage them to attend! Staff are welcome as well J

Friday, 2/19 from 11:40-12:10pm

BLACK HISTORY MONTH!!!

There are lots of plans in the works for Black History Month! This is just one small way that you can participate. Be on the look-out for others to come soon.

We are putting together a slide show to highlight black people in our community and nationally. This will be played in the commons during February and embeded on the student union as well. You can participate by adding a slide (or two or three) into this presentation. Note that the first section is for local black people and the second section is for national. See below for an example slide from Ms. Trujillo.

ADL UPDATE and TUTORING FOR FINALS: 1/25/2020

Hi students,

We’re the ADL and we’re here to offer you a great opportunity! For the last 2 weeks before finals, the weeks of February 8-12 and 15-19, we’ll be hosting teacher-student tutoring sessions and we’d love for you to be a part of it.

So, what are the ADL tutoring sessions? In summary, these tutoring sessions are going to be one-on-one time between a teacher and students to allow the students to ask any questions they might have about the class’s content, prepare for finals, or study. To attend one of these tutoring sessions, please follow this link and click on the Teams link next to your class’s name: (insert Google Doc link here).

This Google Doc contains all the information you need to know about these tutoring sessions, including the tutoring schedule with all of the classes that tutoring will be offered for and their tutoring session’s day/time, as well as recordings of all of the tutoring sessions if you weren’t able to make it to the live stream.

Please don’t hesitate to join, these tutoring sessions are going to be extremely beneficial. Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

The ADL

Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15th through October 15th

Hello MTV Students and Staff,

Between Tuesday, September 15th and Thursday, October 15th we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! We are excited to have the opportunity to share stories, celebrate culture, and pay tribute to the amazing impact that the Hispanic community has had on our history here in Denver and throughout the nation. As a first step, please check out the National Hispanic Heritage Month WEBSITE for a variety of exhibits and collections, audio and visual resources, and a plethora of virtual events.

In respect to our own community, we’d love to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by inviting our student body and families to record short video clips in response to the question: what does your Hispanic heritage mean to you? In this video, you can discuss your own family heritage, something fun to share about your history, a delicacy, or any other relevant details that you’d like to share with our community. These videos should be around 30 seconds to one minute long and you are encouraged to think creatively (think: TicToc).

HERE is an example of what your video could look like! Please send completed videos to sig.arnesen@scienceandtech.org… if possible, upload to YouTube!

Let’s celebrate!
