Senior English/CU Succeed is a high school course which focuses on writing and revising for specific audiences and various rhetorical situations. Students learn how to critically read, summarize, engage, and analyze texts through lecture, discussion, workshop, and conference methods. Students will also demonstrate their ability to generate, organize, and produce writing for appropriate audiences. Trimester 1 focuses on revising a personal essay for college admission, rhetorically analyzing texts, and completing a literary analysis of excerpts from Hamlet. Trimester 2 focuses on using a feminist lens to rhetorically analyze shorter literary texts and completing a deep-dive analysis of A Handmaid’s Tale. Trimester 3 will be solely devoted to writing and revising senior theses. Trimester 3 will take a scaffolded approach, including support for soft skill development, and focuses on effectively crafting a research question, effectively identifying credible sources, researching in academic databases, proper APA format for in-text citations and bibliographies, effectively writing an annotated bibliography, and effectively writing a quantitative research paper for STEM students.
