About Storytelling

Stories are ancient carriers of wisdom: they are used in every culture to teach without preaching, to open perspectives without forcing, to create connections without pressure, to suggest possible evolutions instead of unilateral solutions. They even connect rational and emotional areas of our brains, helping to harmonize these aspects that often contribute to a feeling of  disconnection with ourselves and others.

In the last two years, we worked with storytelling at Amani: enjoying this playful, empathetic, non threatening way to face ourselves and bring different perspectives to our inner landscapes.

To work with stories in our case means that for every activity the topics, activities and exchanges are brought about by one story, through its images, characters and processes. When the story is introduced, it feels like we are growing in number, and our circle opens up to welcome creatures from other realms, each with something precious to transmit.

We are also treating our own lives as stories: with their dark and their light moments, with the values and landscapes we carry, we are writing new pages every day through each of our action, interactions, words, and even the thoughts we cultivate.

We meet together to tend the fire of these stories, to discover how much we have in common, even when we come from far away. To discover that we are able of imagination: and if the world seems to be wonder-depleted, we can be the ones called to bring it back. We discover we all bear stories within us, some that need to be embraced in order to feel less rough, some that needs to be shared in order to get lighter, some that need just the right question to reveal themselves in all their beauty.

We meet to tend the fire of togetherness, to get warmer through each other, and get a refill of courage: the courage it takes to fully live as ourselves, and create with our lives a story of hope.
