Band – The Academy of Music The Academy of Music at IS 318 consists of a Jazz Ensemble, Senior & Junior Concert Bands and Chamber Groups Our Band had 8 of the 15 kids, chosen citywide, to play with the NY Pops at Carnegie Hall last spring. In Partnership with The NY Pops our students receive semi-private instruction from Pops teaching artists throughout the year. 97 % of our kids that auditioned for arts and music H.S.’s got accepted.

The I.S. 318 dance program is designed to expose students to the diverse world of dance. Students experience physical, artistic, and creative skills inherent in learning dance. It has always been our goal to give our students a pathway that can lead to dancing at a professional performing arts school or even Broadway. The students become skilled at specific techniques that teach the basics of ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, contemporary jazz, and other dance forms. The program is great for aspiring dancers and students that are already performers. The students are challenged through discussion, projects, presentations, and movement experiences in a happy and encouraging environment. Eventually the students have the opportunity to perform what they have learned on stage in front of family, friends, teachers, and the community.
