Interview with Mr. Lombardo and Mrs. DeClara
This spring, Mr. Lombardo and Mrs. DeClara sat for an interview to discuss the evolution of our school vision and logo. Let's dive in.
How did you first envision M.S. 407?
Mr. Lombardo: “I envisioned M.S. 407 as a place for students to forge a path for themselves. A place where they could develop and strengthen skills to prepare them for college and the future.”
What does the school name represent and how was the name decided?
Mrs. DeClara: “I knew I wanted an acronym that spelled something out that we could refer to the students as and use on social media.”
Mr. Lombardo: “I wanted to create a STEAM school because I have had experience as a STEAM teacher and I thought that it was such a great class because we were able to tie all of the subjects together, so I thought…why not make this class a whole school.”
Why was a star chosen for the school logo? Was there any inspiration behind it?
Mr. Lombardo: “The name itself helped us create the logo so we can brand the school. The logo helps us create a well-known name for ourselves throughout the community.”
Mrs. DeClara: “The school's name describes the students and the staff. We are STAR students and STAR staff!”
Did you consider any other names or logos?

What are your plans for the future when new students arrive at M.S. 407?
Mr. Lombardo: “My plans for next year are to expand the arts program into visual arts. I also want to consider more project-based learning in coding and incorporating more technology into our school program.”
Mrs. DeClara: “We would also like to create a buddy system, pairing up our older students with our younger students to support them in their transition to middle school."
