Q: What are the eligibility requirements for youth to choose the New York City Department of Education - TCAC as their Provider?

A: Youth must . . .

• be 14 to 21 years of age; and

• be currently enrolled in and attending a New York City Public School (NYCPS) or New York City Charter School (please reach out to your TCAC office regarding exceptions); and

• have a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan; and

• reside in one of the five boroughs of New York City (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island); and

• be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Remember that the application deadline is March 1, 2024!  We will be sure to cover the following steps required to choose us, the New York City Department of Education - TCAC, as your Provider:

1. Under the Demographic Information section you must answer or enter:  ​

• “Yes” to: “Does applicant have a disability?” ​

•  Their school’s 6-character District and Borough Number (DBN) for “If You Have a DBN, Enter it Here?” This field must not be left blank.  For example, DeWitt Clinton H. S. is 10X440.​

• “No” for Do you attend a DOE – D79 School?​

• “Yes“ to Does the applicant have an Individualized Education Program (IEP)?” for students with IEPs and “No” for students with a 504 Plan.​

• Leaves “Referring Agency” and “PIN #” fields blank. ​

2.  After the “Summary” page you will see the “SYEP Provider Selection” page.  Leave all the fields at the top of page blank. ​  Scroll to the bottom of the “SYEP Provider Selection” page, below the map, and select “New York City Department of Education-TCAC." ​

*If you do not see "New York City Department of Education - TCAC" after following these instructions, call or email our office @bxtcac@schools.nyc.gov for assistance before submitting your application.

Note:  If you are not attending a New York City Public School or New York City Charter School, or if you graduated in 2023 or earlier, and you wish to apply to SYEP, please do not enter a DBN.  The DBN entry is only for students with an IEP who are currently enrolled in and attending a NYC Public School or NYC Charter School. You will not be eligible to work through TCAC.
