Welcome to the Advanced STEM Research Class!
Goal: The purpose of the coastal simulation project is to study the physics of waves, wave-making process and the interactions between waves and the shorelines/shoreline protection structures. Then use computational methods to simulate and predict the physical phenomena. The results will be compared to the results from the physical experiments through the wave tank.
Simulation: Wave-related simulation is a type of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. Various simulation tools based on different physics models are available. However, they may require to run on computer platforms with high computational power. Several types of simulations may be performed in this project.
Wave Simulation
Use software to create different types of waves. The simulation is to create different waveforms on demand and the simulator will behave like a virtual wave maker.
Wave Maker Simulation
Use software to simulate different mechanisms or physical configurations of wave makers. The simulation will help wave maker design.
Protection Structure Simulation
Use software to investigate the interactions between various ocean waves and various shorelines protection structures.
