Quinceñera Troubles

I can hear them talking around me. I’d just chosen not to listen to what they said. It was a hot summer day and I was reading my favorite book on my bed, but the people in the living room chatting distracted me. Just then my older sister Maya barged in my room with a nervous face, the annoying part was I couldn’t even tell her to get out because we shared a room.
“You're STILL in your PJ’s?!” Maya exclaimed. “ANA!!!! How are you still not dressed?!”
I totally forgot we were going to my cousin's Quinceanera!!!!! HOW could I have forgotten about it! I just realized that my sister was already in her party dress ready to go. I springed out of bed, grabbed my poofy lilac dress and sprinted to the bathroom to change but instead of smoothly running in I bumped into Mama.
“Ana Luciana Gomez Martinez!! Y como no estás vestida ya?! La quinceañera de Gabriela es en 3 HORAS!!!!”
“ I KNOW Mama, I got distracted!” I explained, dragging out my words.
“Aaiy, Ana. Fine. Just let me fix your hair. Because knowing you, señorita, you take 30 years to just prepare to do it,'' Mama said. We dashed into the bathroom and by some miracle, it only took 15 minutes. By the end of it, my thick, wavy black hair was brushed with tiny flowers intertwined into the curls in the front. I pulled my hair forward and slowly pulled up the purple dress. Mama zipped the back.
“You look beautiful, Mija.” Mama said sweetly. I wished I had her voice. Her gorgeous voice that when words came out of her mouth filled whatever room she walked into with love. My voice was more like Papa’s, strong and passionate. We walked to the living room where Papa, Tío Antonio, Tía Marta and Maya waited for us. We all walked outside and into Tio Antonio’s big truck. Tia Marta was pregnant, so obviously she sat up front. It was a quick drive, only 25 minutes. As we stepped out of the truck, I could already hear the music and laughter. The doors were open and bright purple lights were coming out of the room.
Inside was a wonderland. The tíos and tías were chatting, all the primos were laughing, the abuelitas and abuelitos sat at the round tables eating the mini cakes.
Puedo oírlos hablar a mi alrededor.
