Padlet Vocabulary Assignment:
The below assignment was an in-class vocabulary assignment. Attached is a PDF of how I had students use Padlet to demonstrate their understanding of newly acquired vocabulary words. Padlet is an online collaboration tool that allows for real-time classwork and responses from users. It allows for different modalities of learning to occur at the same time; students are able to type examples, as well as post visuals such as pictures or videos to respond to different prompts.
YoTeachApp
YoTeachApp.com is what is called a "backchannel chat." It is described as "a multi-featured backchannel web app where teachers create and moderate chat rooms for real-time digital interaction among students." I am able to create private, passworded rooms, which allows for all students to communicate and participate even if they are normally too shy to raise their hand. This is a program I have used for about three years, but have really mastered since 2020. When students were separated by 6 feet, this app allowed me to have students work together without needing to move desks because they could chat from their stationary desks. This year, I have been able to create groups for students based on data to allow students to be in groups that aren't necessarily in their immediate area. Students may be seated in groups based on Beginning or Mid Year Assessments, but I can have students grouped online based on different skills. I am attaching part of a group chat from a lesson that Ms. Kargol observed.

The data below shows growth from students in all three of my classes from the 2018-2019 school year. The first data group is from Fall 2018, and the second data group is from Spring 2019. With the use of independent reading periods, books chosen for individual students (as well as books chosen by students who identified reading preferences), and reading comprehension strategies taught throughout the year.
