What is Mental Health?
Mental health is your emotional and mental well being altogether. Mental health can change depending on certain environments, such as your household or school. Some people can live in positive or negative environments, which shapes them as a person. Something that should be talked about more is the effects of your mental health because even if you live in a healthy environment, you can still have negative thoughts, along with harsh environments you can still be lively with good thoughts. In the survey, looking at the information there, we can summarize that some people have trouble with their well being, such as sleep, expressing emotion, and thoughts. Seeing these troubles people are facing are common throughout the school, is a huge problem as that can affect their learning experience at school and participation in class. If we were to reference this data to other people outside, some of them can currently be facing depression. This proves how mental health is something you should take care of, even if it’s difficult in your situation. Mental health isn’t just people sad, it’s your entire emotions combined including happiness. Make sure that if you've been out of your mind for a while for months isn’t really okay because it could soon affect your whole body. Being active outside and inside can help you improve your health mentally and physically.
The Importance of Mental Health
Mental health is important because it is about the way your brain thinks and the way that you act, and feel. This could be important because it basically controls your entire body and the way your body behaves and your personality. It also manages your emotions such as anxiety, sadness, happiness and more. Having good mental health helps manage your relationships , friendships , and family. Mental health is a major problem of multiple people who are feeling down. This is a major problem because people have trouble with a lot of things. Sleeping, overthinking, anxiety, negative thoughts, and not thinking positively. This is bad because we don't need more of this going on. With this information, mental health is important because it's the way our actions are managed and the ways our emotions are controlled.
Caring for your Mental Health
There are many ways to care for your mental health. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, activities like exercise can boost your mood and improve your health. Eating healthy and staying hydrated can increase your energy and focus. Having a sleep schedule to make sure you sleep enough at night. Doing relaxing activities, like breathing exercises, meditation, and other calming activities that you enjoy. Remembering to be grateful for what you have and being positive or optimistic about challenges or thoughts. Frequently spending time with family and friends can provide emotional support and relieve stress. These things can manage stress and according to our data, the students in our school seem to be stressed. They also don’t seem to be getting enough sleep, almost half of the students in our school get only 6-0 hours of sleep, and kids our age should be getting at least 8 hours of sleep.
This proves to us that a quarter of the students in P.S 376 may feel stressed all the time or often at ages 6-10, which means that they might have difficulty learning. It may even cause frustration and other emotions.
This wheel shows that 43% of students sometimes have trouble falling asleep, 22.5% easily fall asleep and 34.5% do have trouble falling asleep. This means that about half of the students in our school could have trouble falling asleep at night which could make them stay up late and be tired in the morning.
This wheel shows that almost half of the students in our school sometimes don’t express themselves, and another portion of students don’t show their emotions or how they feel at all. This means that some kids may be hiding their feelings, like if they are sad or mad.
This data table shows that most people in our school get 9+ hours of sleep and some people get 1 - 3 hours which isn’t healthy for our minds and body, along with getting 4 - 6 hours of sleep. It decreases their energy at school and makes them have trouble doing classwork or assignments at school.
