THE MAXWELL LIBRARY

WELCOME TO THE MAXWELL LIBRARY WEBSITE.  THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY INFORMED ABOUT UPCOMING EVENTS, LEARN OF NEW ARRIVALS, WATCH BOOK TALKS, AND STAY UP TO DATE ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS GOING ON IN OUR NEWLY REOPENED LIBRARY.

LIBRARY RULES

IF ANY OF THESE RULES ARE VIOLATED, YOU WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE LIBRARY. REMEMBER, THIS IS A PLACE FOR STUDY, READING, RESEARCH, AND RELAXATION.

  CHECKING OUT BOOKS/MATERIALS

ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS HAVE AN ACCOUNT. AT PRESENT, ALL FINES HAVE BEEN WAIVED. TO CHECK OUT A BOOK, PLEASE COME TO THE FRONT DESK WHERE I CAN SCAN YOUR BARCODE IN MY FOLDER. THEN YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE BOOK IS DUE BACK IN THE LIBRARY. (STAFF, YOU HAVE 3 WEEKS.) IF YOU NEED MORE TIME TO READ, BRING IT IN AND I CAN RENEW IT. I WOULD NEVER ROB A STUDENT OR STAFF MEMBER OF GETTING TO THE END OF A GOOD BOOK!

WHAT IF I LOSE THE BOOK I BORROWED?

IF YOU LOSE AN ITEM, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING IT. YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO PAY THE COST OF WHATEVER THE ITEM SOLD FOR OR FOR THE CHEAPEST PRICE I CAN FIND IT.

TEACHER SUPPORT

The library is happy to offer support to teachers with the following workshops. Please sign up on the calendar in the library.

STRIPLING’S MODEL OF INQUIRY

Using NYC librarian Barbara Stripling’s model of inquiry, students can move through the six steps to conduct research about a topic of their choosing. This approach includes a series of steps that can be taken in any order: Connect, Wonder, Investigate, Construct, Express, Reflect.

HOW TO FIND CREDIBLE SOURCES

If you are teaching research, this will help your students navigate the web to find sources that are relevant, ethical and credible. We will focus on the differences between .coms, .edu, .gov, .org. We will also, if requested, use Google Scholar to show students how to find scholarly articles from

anywhere.

HOW TO USE MLA/APA CITATIONS

This offering will introduce your students to the MLA and/or APA format for quoting sources to support their arguments/inquiry. We will review in-text citations as well as block style citations and parenthetical expression as well as the importance of acknowledging sources. We will also discuss how to avoid plagiarism.
