Best for Discussion & can be used with all students
The idea of the Bounce Card is to take what someone else has said and add on to it, by giving another example, or relating it to another situation. Then the next step is to paraphrase and after that make meaning of it all by asking questions. This tool is helpful in facilitating conversation and help to create flow between partners and groups within the classroom.

Strategy Instructions
Step 1: Pose 1 Text Dependent Question. Provide 2-3 minutes for students to write a response individually to the question. Remind them to cite evidence in their response.
Step 2: Identify 1 student to begin the share out. Be sure to remind them to cite evidence to support their response.
Step 3: Ask another student to “Bounce” or “Inquire” in response to the first student. Explicitly direct students to refer to the “Bounce Card.”
Step 4: Have at least two students continue the discussion by either “Bouncing” or “Inquiring.”
Step 5: Conclude by asking 1 student to “Sum up.”
Notes:
All students must have the bounce card in front of them during the protocol.
During “Bounce Card Discussion” students are expected to jot notes to add to their responses during discussion.
The Bounce Card Protocol should be used in conjunction with class discussion tracker.
