Culturally responsive teaching is a teaching that recognizes the importance of including students’ cultural references in all aspects of learning. Traditional teaching strategies emphasize the teacher-student dynamic. We seek to leverage our rich diversity at FHS to build on individual and cultural experiences and student prior knowledge.
At Flushing High School, Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CRSE) starts with building relationships with our students. In our commitment to unconditional positive regard for students and families we as a community are committed to work to build relationships with our students to ensure they feel respected, valued, and seen for who they are. Building those relationships helps them build community within the classroom and with each other.
