Welcome to the Dance program here at PS/IS 30! Students enrolled in dance study the history and skills of various techniques and styles including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary. By building this dance vocabulary, students are able to develop and perform their own original dance works in addition to gaining life long skills!

3rd Grade

Jazz Dance

In Spring 2019, students transitioned to remote learning where they studied jazz technique. While at home, students learned the history and basics to jazz dance. With this knowledge, students were able to plan, rehearse, and perform their own jazz dance combinations!


4th Grade Winter Showcase

In Fall/Winter 2019, the 4th graders prepared for the first ever Winter Dance Showcase. Students learned about various performance skills used for group dances including jazz dance technique, musicality, mood through movement, formations, and the rehearsal process!


6th Grade Silk Ribbon Dance

In 6th grade, the students learned about the Silk Ribbon Dance performed at many cultural festivals and celebrations. Students learned about the key elements used to create the Silk Ribbon Dance including quality of movement, synchronization, collaboration, and formations. The Silk Ribbon dances were performed in a special Lunar New Year Performance that highlighted the Dance, Theater, & Music departments here at PS/IS 30.
