Today, we are going to be Programmers and program our robots to achieve their challenges (missions).
Learn more about pollination
understand the challenge
set up the challenge
Collaborate with my teammates
Develop a plan
Create an algorithm
Test the code
Debug error code
Reflect on outcomes
A robot is a machine that is built to perform a certain job. They are programmed by people to be able to perform a task.
using a set of instructions to communicate with computers and robots. There are different coding languages and they all have different rules and uses, but they all give computers instructions on how to do specific tasks.
Code and Go Coding Cards
Botley Cards
a person that writes the code
Today, that is YOU!
a list of step by step instruction that you program into the computer in the correct order
error in your code
To fix your code
The "Go" Button activates your code - which means it tests your code.
Activate the code
When you play all together
Can you make your butterflies do the same dance moves at the same time?
Place your Robots side by side and place the dance challenge cards face down
You and your partner turn over a dance challenge card and solve the dance challenge by creating an algorithm using your code cards
Test your code: Each person should program their butterfly with the same algorithm.
Activate your code (make sure you press it at the same time)
How many turns can your bee make?
Put your flower pot in the middle of your station
Put your start card down about a 2 inches away from your flower pot.
Place your bee on the start card
Create an algorithm with your coding cards so that your bee makes a full turn around the flower pot
Try out your code by programing your bee
Scatter your colorful pipe cleaners around and place some obstacles around the path
Pick a place to put your start card
Get a partner
You and your partner should use the code cards to create an algorithm allowing your cloud robot to move to a pipe cleaner
Test your code:Program your cloud to collect the pipe cleaner
Next partnership goes
When you have all the pipe cleaners collaborate to build a rainbow. Use the 2 cloud cutouts and the pipe cleaners to make a rainbow.
How many flowers can your bee pollinate?
Scatter the flowers and place some obstacles around the path
Pick a place to put your start card
Get a partner
You and your partner should use the code cards to create an algorithm allowing your bee robot to move to a flower and pollinate it
Test your code:Program your bee pollinate a flower
Next partnership goes
Keep switching places until all flowers have been pollinated
Spread out your 6 “B” egg pieces and place some obstacles around the path
Pick a place to put your start card and put the other 6 “A” egg pieces in a stack face down
Get a partner
Flip over the top “A” card and create an algorithm with your partner using the code cards so that your chick robot can get to the correct “B” egg
Test your code:Program your chick to collect the correct "B" egg
Repeat with the next partnership
Continue until all cards have been played
Set up your life cycle cards and arrange them in the form of a square
Put your robot on the first stage of the lifecycle
Collaborate with your team and use the code cards to create an algorithm allowing your robot to touch each phase of the lifecycle in the proper order
Try out your code by programing your robot
Spread out the number flower cards
stand a dominoe on each flower (see picture)
program your robot to knock over the dominoe
Using the numbers on the flower and the dominoe, have your partner make up a math sentence problem for you to solve ( add, subtract, multiply, or divide). If you get it right you keep the flower.
Repeat with the next partnership.
Change roles as you play
Continue playing until all flowers have been picked up
