The Midwood Drumline is a marching percussion ensemble featuring snare drums, bass drums, tenor drums, and cymbals. It can perform in a variety of settings, including parades, as a stationary ensemble, or as part of a concert band. The group is made up of percussionists from the Midwood Wind Ensemble along with select additional students.
Rehearsals take place Fridays from 8:00–9:00am in room B19 (next to the main band room), in collaboration with percussion instructors from BK Steppers. Recent performances include the Homecoming Parade, Open House, Winter and Spring Band concerts, and the Next Wave Percussion Festival. Students interested in joining or proposing a performance opportunity can email drumline@midwood.band.
bK Steppers Marching Arts Residency
In the 2024-25 school year, the Midwood band program joined forces with BK Steppers Marching Arts for a unique residency partnership. Expert percussion instructors McKenzie Squires and Declan Hayden from BK Steppers visit Midwood on a weekly basis for specialized drumline lessons.
Special thanks to Mr. Jordan and program coordinator Michael Hodges for bringing the BK Steppers residency to Midwood!

Next Wave Percussion Festival
The Midwood Drumline had an amazing experience at the Next Wave Percussion Festival on June 3rd 2025 at LaGuardia Community College. This special event was a full day of percussion masterclasses and hands-on sectional clinics, culminating in student drumline performances. The Midwood Drumline received the “Outstanding Bass Section” award for their performance at the festival.
