Second Grade

Second Graders will:

  • Apply number sense by ranking the Yield per Acre data in order from least to greatest.
  • Plot the Yield per Acre data accurately on a graph.
  • Properly label a graph on the X and Y axis and create a corresponding key.
  • Participate in a Taste Test experiment designed by their 4th grade peers.

Notes for the Teacher:

  • Instruct students to make the connection between, and match, the "Yield Per Acre" Field Label to the Potato Field Map label.
  • Using the "Yield Per Acre" data found below, ask students to rank the Y/A data in order from least to greatest.
  • Ask students what the appropriate increments of a graph for this data would be (ex: by 25's, by 50's)
  • Have the students plot the Yield per Acre data on a graph.
  • Instruct students to properly label their graph on the X and Y axis.
  • Ask students:
    • What types of potatoes have the greatest "Yield Per Acre" based on their findings?

Tasks for the Teacher/Students:

  • Share a finished graph on the "Results" tab of the website.
  • Take pictures of the fun and add them to the "Results" tab of the website!
