- Students need to design a taste test experiment for the three new variety types (Caribou, Dakota Russet, and Reveille). Must include all K-4th grade students. Identify a date in which the students will taste the three potato types (Between Nov. 27th and Dec. 1st).
- Ask them:
- What do they want to learn once the experiment is conducted? (EX: Which potato tastes the best)
- How do they conduct this taste test experiments in a way that eliminates any/all variables/distractions (ex: potato temperatures, before lunch vs after lunch, sharing the potato name vs blind)?
- Students will determine the Marketable Yield per Field by multiplying "Yield per Acre" by "Appearance"
- Marketable Yield = "Yield Per Acre"/"Appearance"
- Students will determine the "Fertilizer Efficiency" by dividing the "Fertilizer totals" from 3rd Grade's project by the "Marketable Yield"
- Fertilizer Efficiency = "Fertilizer Totals"/"Marketable Yield
NOTE: The taste test experiment will use potatoes from Walther Farms. The experiment can only be conducted once (with no mistakes). Please vet the students experiment ideas thoroughly to ensure it will be conducted in a way that generates results).
