All About Mrs. Speck
All About Mrs. Speck's Teaching Career:
Happy New Year! This January, I asked Mrs. Speck some questions. We started by saying that she is enjoying her first year in the STC community. She is having a great time being back in the classroom.
Her favorite grade to teach is middle school. She also shared that the students at STC make her job very easy and ten times more enjoyable. She's taught for over 10 years in a variety of schools, including Jewish schools! She says that, growing up Catholic and attending an all-girls Catholic University, she feels at home at STC. She felt overjoyed when she received the news that she would be joining STC's community for the 2025-2026 school year. She also felt that God had responded to her prayers about teaching again. Her favorite part of teaching here at STC is the community and her students, which make her want to come back every day.
A more challenging part throughout her day is staying organized. Being at a new school keeps her on her toes as she juggles everything. Her favorite subject to teach is ELA, as she calls it her "bread and butter". Her favorite area of ELA is writing. She loves seeing her students improve their writing throughout the year!
Fun Facts:
Mrs. Speck loves the color vintage blue. When she's in the mood to listen to music, you would hear some Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald. She also enjoys listening to the Christian band, NEEDTOBREATHE. She has a brother, Justin, who is two years younger than she. She also has a five-year-old daughter, Emilia, who likes to scooter and play dress up!
She grew up in Jersey, where her family still lives today. She tries to visit at least once a month. Mrs.Speck hasn't had more than two sips of soda in her whole life. She says she doesn't enjoy the fizziness. I hope you enjoyed learning more about STC's eighth-grade teacher, Mrs. Speck!
All About Mrs. Monahan
Revolving Around Spanish Class
Welcome back to The Bengal News where in this addition I interviewed Mrs. Monahan, our newest Spanish teacher for STC. I started by asking her how the transition from kindergarten to 3rd grade to 8th-grade Spanish was like. She stated that it was pretty easy because she knew most of the students from her time in STC. I also asked if she is enjoying her time as a Spanish teacher, and she is.
She also likes to find creative ways for students to learn. Her favorite part of teaching Spanish is when she hears the students using Spanish outside of Spanish class. Her most challenging part when teaching Spanish is keeping everyone engaged and wanting to learn more about a new language. She felt blessed when she found out she could take this opportunity of being STC's Spanish teacher. She was recently going to retire to have a flexible schedule to visit her daughter in college, Madison. She also needed to focus on her daughter , Rylee's, foundation. She enjoys teaching the older students because they are just learning what the world is really like. She also likes to teach the younger students because of how excited they are to learn. She sees that teaching writing and speaking in Spanish is like teaching kindergarten how to write and speak in English.
Fun Facts
Mrs. Monahan not only played basketball in middle and high school, but she also played volleyball, soccer, and ran track! She ended up receiving a 4-year scholarship in NC. She went on to attend the University of Mount Olive. She now loves playing golf and attending concerts. She will listen to anything and everything when it comes to listening to music. Her favorite quote comes from Mother Teresa: "Not all of us can do great things, but all of us can do small things with great love."
All About Mrs. Rocks
Revolving Around STC
Hear! Hear! Mrs. Rocks is here! Here are goals, facts, quotes, and more about Mrs. Rocks, your principal. First off we started off on how she felt when she got offered the job of being STC’s new principal. She felt nervous and excited when she found out she would be the principal of STC's 2025-2026 school year. Now that we are in the swing of things she is very much relaxed, enjoying herself, and is loving to see all the kids throughout the day.
She says that her favorite part is saying good morning to all the kids and seeing the kids interact with her by knowing her name. She is also enjoying the time with Mrs. Falciani. With all the exciting parts of a job come challenging parts as well. The most difficult aspect, or something she wants to do more of, is spending more time in the classrooms with the students. One plan for the STC community's evolution is to maintain student enthusiasm and expand programs. She is also hoping to have more involvement with CYO sports. Finally, some goals for STC are to grow STC to its full potential and ensure everyone has the best year possible.
