If you are looking for ideas to work at home with your child. The following are skills that help your child's success at school.
Independence skills. Shoes, Coats, zippers, using washroom, opening and closing containers, practice using your lunch box and back pack. Hanging things up. Putting things away at home. These skills, while don't seem very school like are very important for children as they enter school. Did you know your child will change their shoes upwards of 6 times a day! If you can only work on one thing...work on independence skills!
Recognize their name. See slide deck below for games and activities to help with this.
Fine motor skills. Strengthen and use of small muscles in the hands. We have attached some fine motor activities in the slide deck and under "Parent Corner". Learn how to hold a pencil or writing tool and practice using scissors.
Self Regulation. Please see the Self regulation tab for some resources. Practice labelling emotions. When children are upset we acknowledge and name the emotions and then help them to use a strategy, like taking a breath, using words, stepping away for some time, before we proceed.
